    Abstract
Difference between headlines in Sinhala and Tamil press on 24 May 2019. Main headlines published on 24 May 2019 in the Sinhala and Tamil press showed a divide in the topics of discussion. Some sections of the Sinhala language newspapers – Lankadeepa, Ada and Mawbima focused on the release of Ven. Gnanasra Thera with a presidential pardon. Meanwhile, Tamil language newspapers Thinakaran, Virakesari and Thinakkural headlines focused on the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s victory in the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections in India. A section of the Sinhala and Tamil press briefly featured both stories. Main story - Sinhala - Ven. Gnanasara Thera released (Lankadeepa, Ada, Mawbima) Main story - Tamil - Narendra Modi wins in general elections (Virakesari, Thinakkural, Thinakaran)
