In November 2020, several newspapers (Aruna. Lankadeepa, Mawbima, Dinamina, Divaina) and news telecasts of TV channels (Hiru, Derana, ITN, Swarnavahini) reported news on suicide violating several media ethical violations. Some of them were; not publishing helplines, simplifying the incident, mentioning the method of suicide and publishing the news with prominence
