    Abstract
    In the month of June 2022, the following media ethics violations took place in relation to reporting of the Economic Crisis. During the month of June 2022, several tv channels, namely Sirasa, Siyatha, Swarnawahini, Hiru, Derana, reported on the increases of VAT on their prime-time news. However, ITN reported on the repercussions of reducing taxes in 2019, while Rupavahini did not report the news in its prime-time news headlines. During the month of June 2022, Rupavahini prime time news reported that there will be no rice shortage in the country. Meanwhile, ITN prime time news reported that there will be a rice shortage in the country. During the month of June 2022, the tv channels Sirasa Swarnawahini, Siyatha, Hiru and Derana reported on the fuel crisis and long fuel queues. However, the tv channel ITN reported on there was still leftover fuel while Rupavahini prime time news did not report on it at all. During the month of June 2022, the tv channels Sirasa, Derana and Siyatha reported on a death that happened at a fuel queue. While Rupavahini, Hiru, ITN and Swarnawahini did not carry the news.
