    Abstract
Provincial Council elections were conducted in Sri Lanka’s Western and Southern provinces on 29 March 2014. This report analyses political party performance at these elections using historical, polling division, and preferential vote data sets. The main parties covered in this analysis include the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA); United National Party (UNP); Democratic Party (DP); and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP). In addition, parties with ethnic voter bases such as the Democratic People's Front (DPF); Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC); All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC); and Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) are included. The report also uses socio-economic data to assess the impact of social cleavages on voting.
