    Abstract
On October 26, primetime news telecasts of Derana and ITN, on October 23 Sathi Aga Aruna and on October 24 Divaina reported on the spread of HIV virus. These reports fail to accurately identify the patients as 'HIV' infected persons. HIV is the virus that spreads and attacks the body's immune system. If HIV is not treated, it can lead to AIDS. Not everyone who is infected by the virus develops AIDS. Such inaccurate reporting can lead to the spread of false and incorrect ideas in society.
