Parliamentary report card: Dayasiri Jayasekara – September 2015 to February 2020 and August 2020 to July 2023

Abstract

On September 6, 2023, MP Dayasiri Jayasekara announced that the president of SLFP, Maithripala Sirisena, has suspended his party membership and removed him from his position as general secretary. VR's Manthri Team analysed his performance in the parliament. The report card shows the contribution of MP Dayasiri Jayasekara in 8th and 9th parliaments. It is based on analysis of Hansard data from September 2015 to February 2020 and August 2020 to July 2023. This includes overall rank (26/225; 36/225), Kurunegala district rank (1/15; 6/15), attendance in parliament sittings (288/414; 236/280), total number of productive interventions he made in parliament (304,215) and topics which were discussed most by him in the parliament i.e., National Heritage, Media and Sports; Economy and Finance; Governance, Administration and Parliamentary Affairs; Trade and Industry; Justice, Defense and Public Order.
