COPF Appoints New Chairperson

Abstract

On June 7, 2023, the parliament appointed SJB MP Harsha de Silva as the chairperson of the Committee on Public Finance (COPF). VR's Manthri Team analysed his performance in the parliament. The report card shows the contribution of MP Harsha de Silva (SJB) in 8th and 9th parliaments. It is based on analysis of Hansard data from September 2015 to February 2020 and August 2020 to April 2023. This includes overall rank (30/225; 8/225), Colombo district rank (8/19; 5/19), attendance in parliament sittings (320/414; 230/256), total number of productive interventions he made in parliament (246, 278) and topics which were discussed most by him in the parliament i.e., Economy & Finance; Governance, Administration & Parliamentary Affairs; Trade & Industry. The infographic further highlights upon the role played by COPF, providing context relating to the appointment of a chairperson for the committee after a period of 3 months.
